The Marietta Register, May 22, 1873
The Wildman Theatrical Troupe performed in Marietta several evenings last week - not, however, to crowded houses. They are, without doubt, the best theatrical troupe that ever appeared here, giving the utmost satisfaction to all theatre goers. The troupe is made up of gentlemen and ladies, in the highest acceptation of those terms. We cheerfully recommend them. Their rendition of "Ten Nights in a Bar Room," on Monday night, was admirably performed; and, if the tipplers of Marietta could have been persuaded to attend, would have accomplished more in the cause of temperance than all the temperance lectures we have had.
Note: Clara Wildman, an actor known as the "Pearl of Song," was born about 1853 in London. Along with her touring company and husband Fred Wildman, also an actor, Clara traveled the midwestern and eastern United States, performing light comedic opera, variety shows, and plays. She retired about 1900 and died in New York City, November 14, 1919.
